Podcast Episodes in Grove
You should never, ever start a podcast episode in Grove. Use Grove in the following scenarios:
- Preview: You need to preview what the page will look like. This can only be done in Grove.
- Digital Buildout: You need to do a full digital buildout.
- Updates/Edits: Make updates to a podcast episode that you published via Grove.
- SEO Headline/Permalink: Give your episode a search-friendly hed and URL.
- Images: Change the Primary Visual so the episode page has something different from what's in Nexus.
- Corrections: These have to be added in Grove.
- Major Updates: Add an Update Date to your episode.
To get the Grove version of your episode, click Save to Grove in the Presentations section of your Episode Card:

This button will ALWAYS put you in the right place in Grove. To get to your episode, we encourage you to use this button and not go through Grove.
Now you will be in your Pod Episode on the Grove side. Let's go through this tab by tab.
Main tab
Podcast: This will be filled in by Nexus.
Headline (npr.org): This headline field populates with what’s on your Nexus episode card. You can change the headline for .org if you want something different.
RSS Feed Episode Title: This field also populates with what’s on your Nexus episode card. This is what will appear in Spotify, Apple Podcasts, etc. You should not use Grove to change this.
SEO Headline: This defaults to whatever’s in the headline field. You can change it if you want a headline that will be more Google-friendly.
Permalink Text: By default, this takes whatever is in the headline field and puts dashes between each word. You can change this to make the episode page more Google-friendly.
Subtitle: If you use this, use it. If you don't, no need to start now.
Episode Type: Will fill in from Nexus.
Explicit?: Will feed in from Nexus.
Feed Episode Description: This will also be your teaser text for .org. That is the text that accompanies the episode throughout .org, such as on landing pages and the homepage. It will continue to truncate as it does now to be the teaser.
You do NOT have to paste this into the Body field anymore.
Short Description: At the moment, this does not appear anywhere on .org. Eventually, the site will use Short Description as the teaser on aggregations, replacing the truncated Feed Description that currently serves that purpose.
Season and Episode Numbers: You don’t need to fill this unless your pod actually has distinct seasons.
Bylines: Bylines are coming over from your Nexus episode card (if they are starred in the Users section on the card). You should add them in Nexus whenever possible.
Branding: Nothing to see here.
Embargo: Nothing to see here, either. Avoid.
Images
The images you upload in Nexus will populate the Grove episode page, the podcatchers and YouTube Music. The Wide crop will become the Primary Visual.
If you'd like a different crop or size in the Primary Visual slot, change that in Grove.
If you would like a different photo altogether, change that in Grove.
Here is guidance on all things images.
Do not touch anything that's not the Primary Visual. You could end up changing the image that appears in feeds or elsewhere.
Body
You do NOT have to paste the Feed Episode Description into the Body field anymore.
If you're doing a buildout, this is where ou put the text, photos, videos, embeds, etc.!
This works the same whether you're doing a Pod Episode or a News Story. You'll find guidance here.
Corrections
There is no way to add Corrections in Nexus. You MUST add them in Grove. Here is how.
Major Updates
This adds an update date to the story — it's the same as Major Update in Seamus. It does NOT re-publish the audio! Here's how to add one.
Promo tab
Promos come over from Nexus and are generally not to be futzed with in Grove.
Aggs tab
Aggs will be set in Nexus. At the time of this writing, they are not there yet. But they will be when production starts.
Audio tab
Audio comes from Nexus! Audio assets in Grove are different from those in Seamus. Both the non-premium and the premium are bundled into this one asset.
Other tabs
SEO, NPR, RSS and STYLES tabs you can leave alone unless you are instructed otherwise and/or know what you're doing.
