Notifications
Notifications can be sent within Grove and — with additional user setup — as emails.
When you have an in-Grove notification, the bell icon will have a bubble indicator:
You can set up notifications for many Grove "events." If you want to get a notification every time a story is published, you can. (But why?) Notifications are primarily useful in concert with the Conversation functionality.
Conversation
At the bottom right of every News Story there is a box labeled Conversation:
To send someone a notification, use the @ to choose a user. Start typing and it will autofill. When you hit the Post button, the message will be 1. attached to the story …
… and 2. be sent as a notification with the message, the sender and a link to the story:
This can be accessed via the bell icon. If you have email set up (instructions below), you will also get an email from notifications@grovecms.org with the subject line [Brightspot] Conversation Notification.
To set up Grove so that you receive email notifications when someone @'s you, do the following:
Click on your avatar/initials/name/email whatever, and choose Profile:
Scroll to Notificiations and switch Delivery Methods to Email:
This step is VERY important. If the email address you see is name@AD.npr.org, you need to type your email WITHOUT the AD. For example, hmorris@AD.NPR.ORG must be changed to hmorris@npr.org:
Follow the instructions: Save. Then scroll back to Notifications > Delivery Methods, and expand:
Click Verify Now and go to your email.
You should see an email from notifications@grovecms.org with the subject line [Brightspot] Verification Notification. Click the link. It will return you to Grove and you'll see this:
Once verified, scroll down to Automatic Subscriptions. Under Delivery Methods, select your email:
Slack
Grove doesn't have a Slack integration yet. Maybe someday!
