Audio

Audio can be added in many ways. Here are some.

Primary Audio

This is what plays in the player at the top of a story.

This audio will usually be added automatically, via Nexus. You can still add audio manually if it published on a DLP — kind of like importing audio from a DACS page in Seamus. Click the magnifying glass and find the audio. Having the audio title will help:

Where do you get the audio title? You can get it from Nexus or go to the page it's on and play the audio — the audio title will be what shows up in the player in the upper right:

Podcast audio

If you need to add the audio of a podcast to a Grove story:

Get the Megaphone link from the RSS feed.

  1. Go to the podcast landing page and look for this:

  1. Click the RSS Link button and look for a link that looks like this:

https://chrt.fm/track/138C95/prfx.byspotify.com/e/play.podtrac.com/npr-510311/traffic.megaphone.fm/NPR7840112224.mp3?d=3015&size=48250132&e=1216507509&t=podcast&p=510311

  1. Copy that link and proceed as below!

Click the magnifying glass, then click New Audio on the pop-up:

  1. Type in an Audio Title.

  2. Change the Provider to NPR Audio.

  3. Is This A Stream? should be set to Not a Live Stream.

    a. Paste the Megaphone link into Audio Path.

    b. Set the File Location to External (Podcast).

    c. Set the File Format to MP3 and add the File Size (which seems to be optional).

  4. Toggle on Allow Embed and Allow Download.

  5. Add the duration, formatted as HH:MM:SS.mmm.

Click Publish. This publishes the audio within Grove, not the story.

Click the Back button.

Select the audio you just created if it isn’t auto-selected into the correct field.

Continue building your story.

Secondary audio

In addition to or instead of the Primary Audio on a Grove story, you might want to feature audio in the body text, aka secondary audio.

You can do it as described above under Primary Audio. If the audio isn't in Grove already, here are the steps.

First, you need to get the audio encoded. For now, we’re still using the Seamus audio uploader for that.

Go to your Seamus dashboard and click Upload audio under Upload files.

Fill out the form and upload the audio.

Wait for the email containing the audio path.

Within the body of the Grove story, select the audio button in the toolbar (the musical note icon). The following instructions are virtually the same as adding Primary Audio:

Click the magnifying glass, then click New Audio on the pop-up:

  1. Type in an Audio Title.

  2. Change the Provider to NPR Audio.

  3. Is This A Stream? should be set to Not a Live Stream.

    a. Paste in the Audio Path from the email.

    b. Set the File Location to Internal.

    c. Set the File Format to MP3 and add the File Size.
