Working with Cardboards

Cardboards help you plan and organize content. In NewsFlex, they were part of Planner. Get to them from the Home screen or the green-square-with-plus-sign button.

For a new Cardboard or Cardboard block, ask the Nexus administrator on your team.

User setup

Go to Cards > Automatically Add New Cards to Cardboard and choose a Cardboard. This will be where your cards are automatically added upon creation. Choose which Block and Section you want, as well, to determine what column of the Cardboard they will land in:

In the example above, new cards will end up in the Incoming Assignments section of the Inbox block.

Go to Cardboards > Default Cardboard View. Set View Type — you'll probably want Block, the column view. Set some favorites, if you want:

There will likely be a block on your desk, department or show's Cardboard that will act as a holding pen for new Cards, and it will probably be named Inbox.

Icons

Let's look at the icons across the top of a Cardboard:

These represent different views of the cards.

The two-pane window is block view, a Trello-type board: columns with cards in them.

To the right of that is a calendar icon. This shows a weekly calendar.

Next up is another calendar icon. This one is a monthly calendar view.

Finally, the icon that looks like a bar chart is an all-text listing of the cards. You can copy it to the Clipboard on your computer or export it as a CSV. It also prints nicely if that's your jam.

The second bank of icons, to the far right, also exists:

The star will favorite your board for easy access from Home and elsewhere.

The funnel offers a variety of filtering options.

The bell brings an assortment of notification options.

Adding Cards

There are a few ways to add Cards to a Cardboard.

  1. Set up User Settings to add Cards automatically when you create them.

  2. Use the Plus icon at the top of any block. Give it a name and press Enter:

To edit the new Card, double-click it.

  1. You can drag a Card to a Cardboard using the two-vertical-lines icon to the left of the Card title:

Managing Cards

Unlike in NewsFlex, all boards in Nexus are periodic boards. There are no singleton boards in Nexus. There are monthly, weekly and daily Cardboard options.

Every Cardboard can be set to any date.

A new Card will appear on the Cardboard for the date you created the Card. If you change the date on the Card, it will move to a different date on the Cardboard. When it runs, it will disappear if it's not in a pinned section for that day or week.

You can drag the cards around the Cardboard as desired.

Pinning

Pinned sections are designated with the pushpin icon:

A Card in a pinned section will remain in it until a manual action is taken (like a user moves it to another block) or it is archived automatically.
