Newscast

Newscast has its own setup and workflow.

Spots

This is how to create a spot.

Go to green-box-with-plus-sign icon and choose New Newscast.

Choose Create Spot.

Give it a slug and press Enter. Suggested slug format: name, spot number, and a slug. Example: Horsley S2 Stox week-in-review

Add the name of the reporter in the Reporter field. You can create a new reporter, if needed.

Add the Type - Wrap or Voicer. Don’t create Readers. Those are for anchors.

Your script is automatically created. You should see it under Documents. Just click on it and write in the StoryTeller text editor window that appears.

Now to add audio!

Audio from MTE

If you are recording directly into MTE, drag the file from the clipboard to the floppy disk icon in the upper-left corner of MTE:

A box will pop up in Nexus asking what to call the file and where to save it. Choose the correct location and click save:

Then, go to the Card and click Add Asset. The audio file name will appear:

Click on the audio file and Nexus will load the file in the Card:

Audio NOT from MTE

If you are loading your audio from a location other than MTE — desktop, raw audio bin, etc. — you can simply drag and drop the file from those locations directly into the Presentation Assets part of the Card.

Audio from a booth

The audio is found in the Studios folder under Raw Audio.

The file's first letters (or #) will indicate where you are/were when recording. So, booth 5 will show as EB5 at the start of the file name.

After filing, option one is to go to your desk, open your Card, then go to the Studio's folder and send the file to MTE. Then follow the Audio from MTE instructions above.

Or, remain in the booth, open your own Assignments in Nexus in the booth and follow the steps.

If you want the full view of ALL of the details on the card, click on the menu at the upper right of the card and select Full Card View. You can toggle back by clicking in the same menu for the full card and selecting Toggle Newscast View.

The card auto-saves. You can close it when you’re finished.

Getting started

User settings

Click on your name and choose User Settings.

Under Cards, scroll a bit. When you see Newscast Affinity, toggle the switch to green:

Scroll a bit more to Automatically Create Presentations on New Cards and be sure ONLY Newscast is checked:

Folders

Let’s open the grid. It’s a folder.

Use the green-with-plus-sign button > Browse > Folders or Home > Folders.

Expand Shows, then Newscast. Click Newscast. ‘Tis the grid! Favorite it by clicking the star icon next to All / Shows / Newscast.

Go back and do the same for the Scripts folder. Now they will appear at the top of the Nexus folders view.

Boardsets

From the green-with-plus-sign button, choose Boardsets. Choose Newscast - Next 5:

You may want to open the Boardset on a separate monitor. To do this, open nexus.npr.org in another browser window. Unfortunately, you cannot drag things between browser windows.

Assignments

Open Assignments if you haven’t already. Use the green-with-plus-sign button > Browse > Assignments or Home > Assignments. Lo, it is your assignments. Customize as desired.

Wires

Please see the Wires help page!

Raw Audio

Use the green-with-plus-sign button > Browse > Raw Audio or Home > Folders. Switch the dropdown to Newscast. Note the Recordings, Bins, Ops and All Tables tabs across the top:
